Using the App
How to use BurnRate
1
Start or join a Zoom meeting
Open Zoom Desktop Client and start or join any meeting as usual.
2
Open BurnRate from the Apps panel
In the Zoom meeting toolbar, click Apps. Find BurnRate in the list and click it. The app opens as a sidebar panel.
3
Enter your hourly rate
Type your hourly rate in the input field and press Enter (or click Save). You can mark your rate as private — others will see a lock icon instead of the number, but it still contributes to the total.
4
Watch the cost counter
The real-time cost ticker counts up based on all participants' rates. As others join and enter their rates, the counter updates automatically. Optionally enable the Video Overlay to show the counter on your camera feed.
5
View the meeting summary
When the meeting ends, a summary card shows total cost, duration, participant count, and fun cost equivalents (coffees, flights, etc.). Copy it to clipboard and share with your team.
6
Browse meeting history
The History tab shows all your past meetings with cost and duration. Useful for tracking spending patterns over time.
Features
What BurnRate can do
Real-time meeting cost counter
Calculates cost per second based on each participant's hourly rate. Updates live as people join, leave, or change their rates.
Incognito (private) rates
Enter your rate privately — other participants see a lock icon instead of your actual rate. Your rate still contributes to the total cost calculation.
Meeting history
BurnRate saves your meeting history, with date, duration, and total cost. Compare meetings over time and vote on whether each meeting was worth the cost.
Video overlay
Optionally show the cost counter directly on your video feed, so everyone in the call can see it without opening the app panel.
Multiple languages
Available in English, German, Spanish, and Russian. Locale-specific cost equivalents (metro rides, coffees, flights) for each language.
End-of-meeting summary
After the meeting, get a shareable summary with total cost, duration, participant count, and fun equivalents. Copy to clipboard in one click.

FAQ
Common questions
Does BurnRate record or store my meeting content?
No. BurnRate only stores the hourly rate you voluntarily enter. It has no access to video, audio, screen content, or chat messages.
Can other participants see my rate?
By default, yes — your rate is visible to others in the meeting. You can make it private so only you can see the number. Your rate still contributes to the total cost.
The timer started at 0 when I opened the app mid-meeting
BurnRate tracks the duration from when you first opened the app in that meeting. If others opened it earlier, the counter may differ. This is expected behavior.
My rate disappeared
Rates are stored server-side and persist across sessions. If a rate was lost, simply re-enter it — it will be saved immediately.
How do I change the currency / language?
Tap the language selector at the top of the BurnRate panel (EN / DE / ES / RU). Currency equivalents update automatically based on your selected language.
What Zoom permissions does BurnRate request?
BurnRate requests zoomapp:inmeeting (to run inside a meeting) and user:read (to identify you so your rate is tied to your account). No meeting content is accessed.
